"I can't take him to the solicitor's, can I?"
Outside the café, Sara is on the phone, pleading with Jason;  “Just a couple of hours – I can’t take him with me to the solicitors, can I?   Oh, don’t worry, I’ll sort something out!”
Kath can see she has a problem
Kath happens to be passing, and as soon as she hears that Ifan is proving a problem, makes a suggestion;  “I could look after him if you like,”
"Would you do that, Kath?"
an offer which Sara is pleased to accept.
"I won't charge a penny more than Elinor"
“I won’t charge a penny more than Elinor,” Kath tells her, “I’m happy to help – where is he then?   Up in the flat?”
Dylan is on the phone as he approaches
As Kath goes up to fetch Ifan, Dylan comes round the corner into the alley;  he is in the process of telling Daf on the phone, “You’ll get your money – I’m telling you – unless you don’t trust me.   Everything’s under control.”
"Do you want me to drive?"
Sara informs him that everything is sorted out with Ifan, and asks, “Do you want me to drive?”
"Drive where?"
Dylan looks at her, puzzled, and she reminds him about the house viewing.   He was under the impression that they were waiting for the divorce money to come through.
Sara has it all worked out
She enlightens him, “Ah, well, this house is much cheaper – it needs work, but the idea is that you buy it, and when the divorce money comes through, I can pay to do it up.   I’m so excited for us to see it together.”   The look on Dylan’s face could not be described as one of excitement.
Dani brings the consent form for Cassie
Dani goes to visit Cassie at number nine, bringing her a letter for the school, explaining Gwern’s absence;
"I warned him not to say anything to Garry"
Cassie will pick him up from school at lunchtime, and has already warned him not to say anything to Garry.
"It might not be a bad thing if he did find out"
“It might not be a bad thing if he did find out,” suggests Dani, but Cassie says the last thing she wants is to cause trouble –
"The last thing Gwern needs is more arguments"
and the last thing Gwern needs is more arguments.   “I know, but I’m tired of doing things behind his back,” Dani goes on;  Cassis assures her that they are doing the right thing.
"I'll replace them when the shop is open"
Kelly is borrowing a couple of 4-pint bottles of milk from the Deri, assuring Jaclyn that she will replace them when the shop is open;  “I hope the café is chock-a-block, with the chip shop closed,” she comments.
"A 'sustainable chip shop' – whatever that means!"
Garry is concerned to hear this news, and Kelly explains to him, “Britt and Col have gone to see a certified sustainable chip shop – whatever that means!”
Garry protests that no-one has told him, and grumbles to Jaclyn, “Things like this make me feel uncomfortable.”
"Britt's not answering!"
He attempts to ring Britt, but there is no reply;  “They can’t just close like that!   They’ve got bills to pay – and rent!”   Jaclyn reckons that one day does not matter, but he continues,
"This is the sort of thing she did before she became ill"
“This is exactly the sort of thing Britt did before she became ill – did things out of the blue like this.”
"Don't worry – Colin's with her"
Jaclyn tells him not to worry as Colin is with her, remarking, “She’s lucky to have a brother who looks out for her.”
"Does Dylan look out for you?"
Garry wonders if Dylan looks out for her,
"I usually look after him!"
and she laughs, “I usually look after him!”
Sara and Dylan arrive at the house
Sara and Dylan arrive at the house, and Sara covers her eyes as she enters,
"No, Sara, I'm not looking"
although Dylan is looking around unenthusiastically.   “It’s important that we experience the first seconds together,” she says, then looks around her.
"It's fantastic – this is our new house!"
“Wow!   It’s fantastic!   I’ve got that feeling – this is our new house – this is our home!”
Dylan points out that she is only in the hallway and has not seen the house, but she insists that the initial vibes are important;
"It's even better than the photos!"
“It’s even better than the photos – and look at that fireplace – the size of this room is lovely, we can have a sofa here, another over there, and then a play corner.”
Dylan gets the printed details
Dylan asks the estate agent for the printed details of the house,
"It's a lot cheaper than the other one"
and Sara tries to persuade him, “It’s a lot cheaper than the offer we put in on that other place!”
However, Dylan's mind is elsewhere
He is still looking extremely disinterested.
"Is Greta all right?"
At Maes-y-Deri, Kath has made a sudden realisation, and, when he comes in through the back door, tells Tyler, “Greta’s fine – she’s asleep.
"I've made a bit of a blunder"
“Listen, I’ve made a bit of a blunder – I offered to look after Ifan for Sara, and then I remembered that I have a shift in the shop.”
"Ifan is here now?"
“Ifan is here now?” demands Tyler, “You’ll have to phone Sara, then!”
"Ifan will be fine with you"
Kath points out that Sara is busy for a couple of hours, and Ifan will be fine with him.
"Other children can't be left with me!"
Tyler makes it quite clear, “Other children can’t be left with me,” but Kath tells him not to be soft, as she trusts him completely, and knows that he would not harm a child.
"The three of you will be fine"
“You haven’t changed just because your name is on that register,” she stresses, “I’ve been good to you lately – so this is one little favour – the three of you will be fine.”
He tries to reason with her, “Kath, if Sara and Jason find out . . .”
"No-one needs to find out, do they?"
but she is adamant that no-one needs to find out, and now she has to go to open the shop. She hands over the bag containing Ifan’s things.
"If you can imagine yourself doing things in the kitchen . . ."
Sara is still enthusing about the house, “If you can imagine yourself doing things in the kitchen, like making a cup of tea or cooking, it’s a good sign – and you know what?   I can!
"I know it needs a bit of work"
“I know it needs a bit of work, but a lot of it is cosmetic – a coat of paint, a new carpet in there, nice tiles on the floor . . .”
"You're acting like we've already bought the house"
Dylan urges her to calm down;  “You’re acting like we’ve already bought the house.”   She replies that it ticks a lot of boxes, and she will be able to put her own stamp on the place.”
"We don't want them to think we're too keen"
He closes the door so that the estate agent cannot hear, and warns Sara, “We don’t want the agent to think we’re too keen, or they won’t bring the price down.”
She does not believe that the price is a problem,
"I'm not paying that much for this place, OK?"
but he stipulates, “I’m not paying that much for this place, OK?”
"I'm going to pay to do the place up!"
Sara appears to be under the impression that when the divorce is sorted, she will pay to do with the place up, and then it will be worth a lot more.   “The divorce won’t pay for half the work that needs doing!” he growls, and then his phone rings.
"I need to answer this"
“I need to answer this,” he says, and goes out of the room, leaving Sara looking rather frustrated.
"Beef Bourguinon tomorrow night?"
In the Deri, Jaclyn suggests beef bourguinon with roasted vegetables for the menu tomorrow night, and Garry comments, “Make sure it has more substance than the three prawns for a tenner your brother serves at Tapas!”   He is attempting to contact Cassie, and leaves an abrupt message for her;
"I want you to work this afternoon"
“Cas, call me back, I want you to work this afternoon.”
"She's gone to see Gwyneth"
“There’s no point phoning Cassie,” Dani informs him, “She’s gone to see Gwyneth.”
After a moment’s thought he demands who took Gwern to school this morning, then realises that Dani has going behind his back.
"You had no right, Dani!"
He violently thumps the bar and shouts, “You had no right!”   Jaclyn warns him that he is attracting the customers’ attention,
"I decide what's best for Gwern!"
but he continues, “I decide what’s best for Gwern!   You’ve gone too far this time!”
Dani has had enough of this
Dani storms off upstairs.
"I really think we've found the house for us!"
“Sorry if I’m too excited, but I really think we’ve found the house for us!” Sara exclaims, while Dylan is engrossed with his phone.   “I can see the three of us here – Ifan’s bedroom will be bigger than mine now.”
"Ifan won't be with us half the time"
Dylan maintains that Ifan will not be with them half the time, and the important thing is what they want.
"Dylan, what's wrong with you?"
“Dylan, what’s wrong with you?” she snarls, “Take me home – you’ve obviously got more important things to think about than finding a home for us.”   He says that he has a lot on at work,
"You've spoiled today – take me home!"
and she continues, “Do you know what?   You’ve spoiled today!   Take me home – now!”
"Listen, I've got a job for you"
She marches out of the house, and Dylan makes a phone call;  “Listen, I’ve got a job for you,” he says.
He is speaking to Garry
As Garry comes downstairs at the Deri he is talking to someone on the phone;  “Bring it in this week and I’ll take a look at it.”
"Your brother wants to sell his car"
Surprised, he tells Jaclyn, “That was your brother on the phone – he wants to sell his car.   He didn’t say why – and he’s in a hurry, too.   Do you know anything?”
"Probably seen a flashy sports car he fancies"
She imagines that he has probably seen a flashy sports car that he fancies,
"Have you calmed down now?"
and asks Garry if he has calmed down now.
He confirms that he is still angry;
"They don't realise how serious the charges are"
“They don’t realise how serious the charges against Gwyneth are – dealing drugs, murder.  It’s as if my own wife is deliberately not seeing it – not seeing what having any contact with drugs does to people – it ruins people’s lives.   I don’t want Gwern to have anything to do with that.”
Jaclyn knows more about it than he is aware
Jaclyn understands very well what he is saying, and agrees that drugs destroy peoples lives.   He goes on, “I’ll never understand Cassie,
"I thought Dani and I would see eye-to-eye"
“but I thought Dani and I would see eye-to-eye on this – that she would feel the same as I do about what Gwyneth’s done.   After everything she’s put us through.   I love Gwern, full stop – but if those two go against what I think is best, how is Gwern going to see that I’m trying to protect him?   What will he think of me?”
"The last thing Gwern wants is you and Dani arguing"
Jaclyn points out that Gwern will have had a difficult and emotional afternoon; “The last thing he wants is to come home to see you and Dani arguing.”
"I was in care for most of my childhood"
Garry tells her that he was in care for most of his childhood;  “Family life was just a mess, but I have an opportunity to make up for that now – to give Gwern everything, a normal life –
"I'm just messing that up now"
“and I’m messing that up now.”
Jaclyn assures him that he is not making a mess of anything;
"His family life is complicated"
“You might have to accept that Gwern’s family life is complicated – his reality is that his mother is in prison.   You know whether that relationship is there – she clearly loves him – is it worth holding on to that, or is the fighting worth it?”
"You'd make a good agony aunt"
“You’d make a good agony aunt,” Garry remarks, and thanks her for the advice.
"I want that massive house with a huge garden!"
Up in the café flat, Kelly sighs, “Imagine how amazing it would be if you could just pick the house you want.   Walk into the estate agent’s with a million, and say, ‘I want that massive house with a huge garden’!”
"There are not many million-pound houses around Cwmderi"
Jason emphasises that there are not many million-pound houses around Cwmderi.
"Sara and Dylan will have been for a viewing"
“I wouldn’t live in Cwmderi though, Jase,” she goes on, and he jokes that if there is a million-pound house in the area, he can guarantee that Sara and Dylan have already been for a viewing.
"Even if it is in this poxy flat!"
“Once Sara gets what she wants, we can start living our million-pound lifestyle – even if it is in this poxy flat!” Kelly growls.
"We could cwtch up and watch a film"
Jason would be happy if they could sit down, cwtch up and watch a film in their own living room.
"We could have 'Naked Tuesdays'!"
Kelly’s response to this is, “Yeah, then we could do what we liked – I mean, we could even . . . I don’t know . . . have Naked Tuesdays!
"Naked Tuesdays?"
Naked Tuesdays?” gasps Jason,
"I shall make a million pounds one day"
and she confidently asserts that she will make a million pounds one day.   “In that case, you’d better do some work, then,” he recommends, and says that he has to go to Maes-y-Deri to fix Mark’s radiator;
Jason will now be unable to concentrate on the radiator
“I shall have a job concentrating on that now, with the thought of Naked Tuesdays!”
"I'm sure Dani will have something for you to eat"
When Cassie returns to the Deri with Gwern, she is sure that Dani will have something for him to eat;  Garry asks his son how it went,
"I'm not angry, Gwern"
and adds, “Don’t worry, Dani’s told me where you’ve been – and I’m not angry – I just want to make sure you’re OK.”   This comes as a surprise to both Gwern and Cassie, who reports that Gwyneth was very happy to see him.
"Seren's been looking forward to seeing you all day"
“Go upstairs – Seren’s been looking forward to seeing you all day,” Garry goes on, and Cassie knows that he is not happy that she took Gwern, but insists that she had to do something;  “The boy was desperate to see his mother,” she begins;
"It was a bad idea to take him to the prison!"
Garry considers it a bad idea to take him to the prison.   He emphasises that he knows the boy better than Cassie, and knows that he wanted to see his mother.
"Have you read the letters he writes to her?"
“Do you really know that?   Have you read the letters he writes to her?” Cassie demands,
"It's not doing him any good, Garry"
and Dani intervenes to say that keeping him away is not doing him any good.
“If you weren’t obsessed with what you think is right, you would see that,” she continues.
"You two ganging up on me doesn't help!"
Garry emphasises that he wants what is best for Gwern in this mess, and those two ganging up on him does not help.
"Look, he wrote all these!"
Cassie takes from her bag a pile of letters which Gwern wrote, but have not been sent to the prison, and urges Garry to read them, so that he can understand.
Jaclyn and Garry look at each other
He looks across at Jaclyn.
"It's a big decision to make, Sara"
Sara marches into the café, and Kelly appreciates that the house is a big decision to make;
"Don't walk away from me like that, Sara!"
then Dylan follows Sara in, warning her not to walk away from him like that, explaining that today is a bad day.
Sara groans, “I’m tired – all I want to do is pick Ifan up and come back – we’ll discuss it later.”
Kelly can see that all is not well
Kelly detects the tension there as Dylan walks out again.
"I'm sensing it didn't go the way you imagined"
“I’m sensing it didn’t go the way you imagined,” she says,
"Cancel the coffee – I'm going to get some wine"
and Sara tells her to cancel the coffee, as she is going to get some wine from the shop.
"Hold the fort, Gwen  – "I'll be back in a minute"
Kelly will go with her, as she has to get milk to take to the Deri, and advises Gwen that she will be back soon.
"I know, Joyce – that berry jam . . ."
In the shop, Kath is on the phone to Joyce about Cae Glas jam,
". . . I think there's some out the back"
and thinks she may have some in the back room.
"Perhaps I'm expecting too much"
Sara and Kelly come in, with Sara thinking she may be expecting too much;  “The perfect house, the perfect life – but Dylan just didn’t!”
"Investing in a new home and new family"
Kelly takes two bottles of milk from the chiller and replies that it is a big deal;  “Investing in a new home, a new family – perhaps it’s just sinking in and a bit scary.
Kelly still thinks everything is all right
“He loves you – everything is all right.”
Kath come back into the shop
When Kath walks back into the shop,
"Where's Ifan?"
Sara is astonished and demands, “Where’s Ifan?”   She is told he is perfectly safe at Maes-y-Deri.   Sara immeditely runs from the shop,
"What's wrong with you, Kath?"
and Kelly demands to know what is wrong with Kath, before following her out.
"Greta, Ifan – food's nearly ready!"
At Maes-y-Deri, Tyler calls to Greta and Ifan that their food is almost ready;  then there is a knock at the door,
"This radiator in here, is it?"
and Jason has come to fix the radiator, much to Tyler’s surprise.
"What's this doing here?"
He notices a bag, very similar to Ifan’s, and wonders what it is doing there;
Tyler remains silent
Tyler does not reply.
Garry throws the letters down on a table
In the Deri, Garry has read the letters from Gwern, and does not blame him;
"You took him without permission!"
“The problem I have is that you took him without permission – you took him out of school – you basically kidnapped him!”   Cassie tells him not to be ridiculous, as Dani gave permission for him to leave school.
"It was the right thing to do for Gwern"
Dani insists that it was the right thing to do for Gwern,
"You're not even his mother"
but Garry rages, “You’re not even his mother!”
Dani informs him, “Right, I’m going to make dinner for Seren –
"While I'm just pretending to be his mother!"
“and your son – while I’m just pretending to be his mother.”
"Aren't you on the Sex Offenders' Register"
Jason is furious with Tyler;  “Sorry, correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t you on the Sex Offenders’ Register?”   As Tyler explains that Kath will be back in a couple of minutes, Jason rants that he does not want Tyler anywhere near Ifan.
"Good job, finding someone else to babysit Ifan!"
Then Sara also arrives, with Kelly, and Jason shouts, “Good job, finding somebody else to babysit Ifan!”
Kath faces Tyler . . .
By this time, Kath has returned,
. . . who is sure he will be jailed for this
and a panic-stricken Tyler predicts that he will be going to jail for this.
