30 March 2026 (2nd)

Cassie has had the graffiti removed

A painter is just leaving the Deri;  Dani, behind the bar, imagines that Cassie must be thinking about some redecoration.

"You didn't let Owain into the flat, did you?"

“Oh no – there was a mark on the wall.   Listen, you didn’t let Owain into the flat last week, did you?”

"Certainly not"

Dani replies that she did not.

"I don't want anyone up there"

“I just don’t want anyone going up there while I’m away today,” Cassie continues, “So I’ve locked it – only Kath and I are allowed up there from now on.   And if my dear grandson comes back while I’m out,

"Phone me immediately"

“will you phone me immediately?”

Gaynor is back

Then they hear someone coming in and greet Gaynor,

"Hello, stranger"

who Cassie describes as, “The stranger!”

She agrees that she feels like she has been away for months and is looking forward to getting today over with.

“I’m not ready to face the house yet –too much has happened there.   I’ll go home later –

"If I'm allowed to go home"

“if I’m allowed to go home, that is.”

"Of course you'll be allowed"

Cassie is sure that she will be allowed;  they leave for the court.

"Thanks for getting me out of the house"

As they emerge from the deli, Ieuan thanks Diane for forcing him to come out of the house;  she points out that there is no need for him to rush home.   “We could have stayed for a coffee.”

He is not paying for coffee

He protests that he had already paid a fortune for two pieces of cake and does not intend to pay for coffee when there is a kettle in the house.

"She's a lot better now"

Eleri is coming along the road, so Ieuan ask her how Anita is settling in and she replies, “A lot better now,” which he finds rather unsettling.

"Now – what is that  supposed to mean?"

“You heard what Eleri said – that she is a lot better ‘now’ – what is that supposed to mean?”   Diane reminds him what Eleri is like.

"What if there's a problem?"

“What if there's a problem?   She hasn’t settled or she’s not happy?”   He is told not to overthink matters, but he cannot help doing so.

“Staying away for two weeks is driving me mad – and now this!   I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

"We're  going to Brynawelon!"

In that case, Diane decides that they are going to Brynawelon.

Indeg and Siwsi arrive at Ceffyl Du

The preparations in Ceffyl Du for Lleucu’s 18th party are in progress, but when Indeg and Siwsi bring in decorations,

"We've already decorated"

they are told by Siôn that they have already decorated.

"You call this decorating?"

“You call this decorating?” asks Indeg, “I want surprise and awe in Lleucu’s arrival video, not disappointment!”

"She's already had a special breakfast"

Siwsi confirms that they have spoilt her already with a special breakfast and a cake;  “She’s been at it like the great British Bake off!” says Indeg, who is now intending to go home.

Rhys is puzzled

“Home?   I thought the party was here,” protests Rhys.

"I'm sure Siwsi can handle everything"

Indeg is sure that Siwsi can handle everything;

"Dad and I can help"

Rhys volunteers himself and Siôn to help.   They are told that the rest of the stuff is round the corner.

"Where are you living?"

“You’re living together, are you?   Where?” Rhys wants to know and is told that they are ‘house-sitting’

"You don't know them"

for someone he does not know.

"I didn't realise you were . . . "

Cai comes into the Deri and finds himself face-to-face with Dani;  “I didn’t realise you were . . .”

"Only for a couple of shifts"

but she explains that it is only for a couple of shifts to help Cassie.

"Have you . . ?"

“Have you . . ?” he asks

"I want to do this on my own"

and she again replies that she wants to do this on her own.

I won’t have to change my flight, then,” he tells her, “I’m going to Dubai – I’m desperate to see Twm.”

Lleucu joins them . . .

Now Lleucu also comes in and was not expecting that there would be three of them;  they wish her happy birthday and argue over who will pay for her first legal pint.

. . . Cai will pay for her first legitimate pint

Cai insists that he is not missing out on the chance to buy his daughter’s first legitimate pint.

She looks quite happy . . .

As she appears to be in a much better mood,

. . . and `Dani wonders of she knows Cai is leaving

Dani asks Cai whether she knows that her father is leaving.

"Wait until she sees her birthday present"

“Not yet – but wait until she sees her birthday present.”

Colin is anxious

Colin is sitting in the court waiting room, looking extremely worried, when Gaynor and Cassie arrive.

"Of course I came"

“Of course I came – how are you?” he says.

"I'm nervous"

Gaynor tries to insist that she is fine, although rather nervous;  she is glad that they are both there.   Colin assures her that they are with her every step of the way.

"Expecting your solicitor?"

Cassie assumes that her solicitor will be arriving shortly,

"We disagreed on how I should plead"

but is informed by Gaynor that he will not be coming, as they disagreed on how she should plead.

"Don't say he wants you to plead guilty?"

“Don’t say he’s trying to persuade you to plead guilty?” demands Colin.

"I'm going to plead guilty!"

“No, he wants me to plead not guilty – but I can’t do that – I’m going to plead guilty!”

Colin is shocked . . .

Neither Colin

. . . as is Cassie

nor Cassie can understand this.

"A car?"

Cai informs Lleucu of his present for her;  “A car!” she squeals and he adds that he is paying for her lessons –

but wants her to make sure that she passes first time.   “But how did you afford it?”

`'I've sold my car"

He reveals that he has sold his car, “And there will be enough money to buy you a little run-around when you come back.”

"Back?"

“Back?” she demands.

"Dubai?"

He passes another present to her, which she finds is a guidebook to Dubai.

"We're going to see Twm"

“We’re going to see Twm.”

Lleucu cannot believe it . . .

Lleucu is very excited and is told that they are leaving tomorrow.

. . . but when he announces they will be there for a month . . .

“A month with Twm – and then I’m thinking about going travelling for a while – to see the world and have an adventure.   It’s the Easter holidays, so you’ll only miss two weeks of school –

"I thought you'd be happy"

“I thought you’d be happy.”

"I can't go for a month, Dad!"

“I can’t just go to Dubai for a month, Dad – I have stuff to do.   I’ve got exams in a few months and loads of coursework to do.

"What came over you?"

“What came over you?”   He replies that it was supposed to be a surprise.

"I'm not coming!"

“Give my regards to Twm, because I’m not coming!”

Off she goes

She picks up her bottle and walks out, much to Dani’s surprise.

"You can't plead guilty, Gaynor!"

Colin begs, “Please don’t say you’re going to plead guilty – because you can’t, Gaynor!”

"But I am guilty!"

She is adamant that she is guilty, but Cassie tries to convince her to think sensibly about this.

“All I’ve done is think sensibly about it – I knew Tom had killed Cheryl and I didn’t say anything to anyone.”

"You were scared of him"

Cassie insists that was because she was scared of him and Tom was playing games with her.

Gaynor is convinced, “Anyone else would have gone straight to the police – but what did I do?

"What sort of person does that?"

“I went away on holiday to Paris – what sort of person does that?”

"A person who's frightened for her life!"

“A person who is frightened for her life!” is Colin’s answer, “You had no choice but to follow him and keep his dirty secrets.”

"I did have a choice, Colin"

Gaynor insists that she did have a choice, so Colin wonders what Tom would have done if she had run to the police –

"The same as he did to Cheryl?"

“The same as he did to Cheryl?”

"You did it because you wanted to stay safe"

Cassie agrees, “You did what you did because you wanted to stay safe – but you don’t have to be scared of Tom now.

"Don't let him control you!"

If you go in there now and let him control you – and plead guilty, he’ll be with you for ever.”

Lleucu sits by the war memorial

Lleucu is sitting gloomily on the plinth of the war memorial when her phone sounds

Presumably 'pre-party drinks'

with a message from Indeg, ‘PRINKS?’ which she ignores.

Dani approaches

Dani is approaching and asks to join her;  “Don’t worry – I haven’t been drinking gin this time,” says Lleucu.

"Don't be angry with your father"

“Don’t be angry with your father,” Dani urges her,

"He expects me to drop everything"

but she protests that he expects her to drop everything to go to Dubai.

"He wants you and Twm in the same place"

“He just wants you and Twm in the same place – he misses you.   It’s only a month, anyway.”

"He's talking about going for longer"

“He’s talking about going for longer – travelling and things.”   Dani wonders if he can be blamed for that, as a lot has happened in Cwmderi and perhaps he needs to clear his head.

"It might really help him"

“It might really help him.

Dani leaves her

Dani gets up and walks away.

"We have a right to know!"

Ieuan is loudly protesting at Brynawelon, “We have a right to know!   We want to see Anita now!”

"What's all this noise?"

Eleri is attracted by the commotion and rebukes him, “Well ask, then, not shout!   Don’t raise your voice and upset half the home.”

"We're worried about what you said earlier"

Diane explains that they are worried about what she said earlier.

“That she’s better ‘now’ – what’s that supposed to mean?” he snarls,   “What are you hiding?” exclaims Ieuan.

"She had trouble settling the first night"

Eleri replies that Anita had trouble settling on the first night, as many people do, but Siwsi was there and she is much better now.

"Do we still have to stay away?"

He demands whether they still have to stay away for two weeks and she says that was simply advice;  “I’m not going to stop you seeing Anita –

"I'm not running a prison"

“I’m not running a prison.”

Anita is brought in . . .

At that moment, Anita is brought into the room,

. . . full of smiles

full of smiles;  she tells them to sit down,

"I'm about to order a gin"

as she is about to order a gin now and asks where Cassie went.

"I told you, didn't I?"

Diane mutters to Ieuan, “I told you, didn’t I?”

"I had a visitor – Eira!"

Anita informs them that she had a visitor, “Eira!”   [Eira was Anita's daughter, born in 2005 and who died shortly after birth]

They are at a loss for a reply

They do not know how to respond to that.

Gaynor stands before the court

In the courtroom the charge is read out,

"How do you plead?"

“Gaynor Llywelyn, you are charged with assisting an offender and attempting to pervert the course of justice.   How do you plead?”

"Not guilty"

After a pause, she replies, “Not guilty,”

That is a weight off their minds

which comes as a great relief to Colin and Cassie sitting nearby.

The party is under way

The birthday celebration in Ceffyl Du has begun and Rhys hopes that the birthday girl will be happy.   Siwsi predicts that she will be buzzing;  “If she ever turns up,” groans Rhys,

"I hope you're not doing something you shouldn't"

“She and Indeg are in the house that you’re house-sitting, are they?   Where is it again?   I hope you’re not doing something you're not supposed to be doing.”

"I'd never do that!"

“Me?   I’d never do that!” insists Siwsi, most affronted.

"I'm going"

Cai and Siôn are sitting in a corner;  Cai decides that he is going, as he might be the reason she is not there.   “What a stupid idea – if only I’d spoken to her first.”

"It's not a stupid idea"

Siôn points out that it is not a stupid idea and Twm is looking forward to it, but now Cai is talking about cancelling the whole trip, as he cannot leave Lleucu on her own.   “I wanted us to spend time together, so if she’s not coming . . .”

"I'll look after Lleucu"

Siôn is adamant that he will look after Lleucu, urging Cai not to disappoint Twm.

"I'm her father – I should look after her"

“I think you’ve looked after her enough, Siôn – I’m her father – I should look after her.   Twm has Nesta.   I’m going to phone him.”

Siôn fancies another one

Siôn thinks that he will have another bottle, then his phone sounds.

"Gaynor's out on bail"

“Good news,” he announces, “Colin has texted to say Gaynor is out on bail and can come home tonight.”

"I thought she was in Llandudno"

Siwsi had been under the impression she was in Llandudno;  it is confirmed that she was there until the plea hearing,

"She's coming home to Cwmderi"

but will now be coming home to Llwyncelyn.

Rhys follow Siwsi

Siwsi makes a quick exit to make a phone call, followed by Rhys.

With all the loud music . . .

Meanwhile at Llwyncelyn, Indeg has a gang of friends round, so with the loud music,

. . . Indeg's phone rings unnoticed

the call from Siwsi goes unanswered.

Rhys can see that something is amiss

Siwsi is extremely concerned and Rhys asks where she is going;

"I'll give you a lift"

“To get Indeg.”   He points out that she has been drinking and will give her a a lift, as it is quicker than walking.

"Llwyncelyn"

She is forced to reveal that they are going to Llwyncelyn.

"Right – come on!"

“Right – come on!” he says.

Lleucu sits on the stairs . . .

Lleucu is sitting at the foot of the stairs in Y Felin

. . . when her father comes in

when the door opens and Cai comes in;  “I’ve been waiting for you at Ceffyl Du.”   She meanwhile has been waiting for him there.

"Sorry for springing everything on you"

He apologises for springing everything on her today, but thought she would be happy to get a chance to see Twm and her mother.

"I don't want to go to Dubai for a month"

“I’d love to do that, Dad, but I don’t want to go to Dubai for a month – I have a life here – friends, school.”

"It was a stupid idea"

He appreciates that it was a stupid idea.

"No – it was a lovely idea"

“No, it was a lovely idea – and I understand why you want to go.   You’ve been through so much, Dad.

"It would be amazing for you to see Twm"

“I think it would be amazing for you to see Twm and go travelling.”

"Don't worry, Mwnci – I'm not going anywhere!"

He assures her, “Don’t worry, Mwnci – I’m not going anywhere – I’m going to tell Twm I’m not coming.

"I have to support you"

“I have to be here to support you with your exams and things.”

"I don't need a revision partner"

She insists that she does not want a revision partner;  “What I want – the only thing I’ve wanted over this last year – is a happy and healthy father.

"Go and have an adventure, Dad"

“Go and have an adventure, Dad – I’ll be here waiting for you when you come home – yes, I’m sure.”

She gives her father a hug

She gives her father a hug.

Siwsi marches in . . .

With the usual loud music, partying is going on at Llwyncelyn when Siwsi and Rhys arrive.

. . . and turns off the music

The music is immediately stopped

"Hey, I was listening to that!"

and Siwsi informs Indeg that they have to get out now

"You have to get out!"

“There’s no rush – Lleucu hasn’t arrived yet,” protests Indeg, but Rhys begs to differ.

"We're renting from . . . what's her name?"

Indeg pretends that they are renting from . . . but , in her inebriated state, cannot remember Gaynor’s name.

"Gaynor's on her way home . . ."

Siwsi spells it out;  “Gaynor’s on her way home

The reality of the situation strikes home

“now!”
