| Lleucu walks along the back street |
Lleucu is walking along the back street and Eileen is sweeping up outside the shop
![]() |
| Eileen finds some vagrants . . . |
when she notices two, apparently homeless, young people sitting in the alley.
![]() |
| . . . and scares them away |
She shouts at them, “Where are your parents?” so they quickly pick up their belongings
![]() |
| They run out of the alley . . . |
and run away into the back street, where Lleucu meets them.
![]() |
| . . . where they meet Lleucu . . . |
She immediately takes pity on them,
![]() |
| . . . who gives them her milkshake |
offering them the bottle of milkshake which she has in her bag.
![]() |
| "Not everyone is such a Karen as her!" |
She tells them, “Not everyone in the village is as much of a Karen as her!”
![]() |
| They hurry away |
and they hurry off.
![]() |
| The police have taken some details |
A police officer has visited the MFC flat and will let Britt and Colin know if they hear anything.
![]() |
| "You'd think they could do something" |
Colin complains, “You’d think they could do something to help.”
Britt wonders what he was expecting; “That forensics would come here? That they’d put their best detectives on the case?
![]() |
| "He only stole a tenner!" |
“He only stole a tenner!”
![]() |
| "How do you know it was a 'he'?" |
Colin enquires how she know that it was a ‘he’,
![]() |
| "Perhaps I'm being sexist" |
so she adds, “Perhaps I’m being sexist and it was a ‘she’.”
![]() |
| "Are you sure you didn't let Ben come here?" |
He is becoming increasingly suspicious and demands, “Are you sure that you didn’t let Ben come here? And your keys were in the flat the whole time?”
![]() |
| "You're interrogating me again!" |
She warns that Colin is interrogating her again, but he does not understand what is going on;
![]() |
| "Do you think it was Siwsi?" |
“Do you think it was Siwsi? She had keys – did she give them back?” Britt confirms that she gave them back before she went.
Colin imagines that she could have made copies, which she gave to someone, so is adamant that he is going to phone a locksmith to install a deadlock,
![]() |
| "Otherwise I won't be able to sleep at night!" |
“Otherwise I won’t be able to sleep at night!”
![]() |
| Britt tries to look less guilty |
Britt agrees with him, but at the same time looks very guilty.
![]() |
| A different carer today . . . |
Today’s carer has arrived at number 7
![]() |
| . . . but she gets the same treatment from Anita |
and once again Anita has taken an immediate dislike to her; she asks Anita what are her favourite television programmes, but receives no reply.
![]() |
| "I have to go to work now" |
Ieuan has to leave for work now and points out that Anita has not had breakfast yet; “She likes porridge with raisins and honey – like she used to have years ago.” Anita moans at him, “You’re not leaving me with her?”
![]() |
| "She doesn't mean it" |
Ieuan reassures the carer that she does not mean it,
![]() |
| "She does mean it!" |
but Anita stresses, “She does mean it!”
![]() |
| "I don't have any choice" |
Ieuan says that he has no choice but to go to work, but Anita takes issue with this; “You do have a choice!” He points out that if he does not go to work, he will not be paid.
![]() |
| "Money – that's all you think about!" |
Her response is, “Money, money – that’s all you think about! I don’t know her!”
![]() |
| "We shall be all right" |
However, the carer is naïvely confident that they will be all right and that she is used to it; she tells Ieuan to go.
He promises Anita that he will be back before she knows it and is about to kiss her,
![]() |
| Anita avoids being kissed |
but she moves away to prevent him from so doing.
![]() |
| Ieuan is reluctant to leave |
He very reluctantly leaves the house,
![]() |
| Britt is still in her dressing gown |
Britt is sitting on the sofa, still feeling very guilty; as she is in her dressing gown,
![]() |
| "Will you be working today?" |
Colin asks if she will be working today.
![]() |
| "It will be like Fort Knox" |
When she says no, he sits beside her, telling her that there is no need to worry; “The locksmith’s on his way – “it will be like Fort Knox!
![]() |
| "I've had a chat with the police about Siwsi" |
“And I’ve had a chat with the police about Siwsi – it’s important that they know the facts.”
![]() |
| "It wasn't Siwsi – it was Ben" |
Britt emphasises that it was not Siwsi; “I know it wasn’t her because . . . it was Ben! Last night – it was Ben!”
![]() |
| "But you told the police – and me . . ." |
Colin cannot believe it; “You’ve just told the police – and me – that you didn’t see his face.” She argues that she could not tell them – she knows it was Ben,
![]() |
| "He's not s criminal, Col" |
but insists that he is not a criminal.
![]() |
| "Criminals break into houses!" |
Colin reminds her that criminals break into houses, but she maintains that it is his friends that force him to do these things. Colin shouts, “If we had not got back when we did, they could have stolen a lot more than £10!”
![]() |
| "You don't know that, Col" |
“You don’t know that, Col!” she shouts back at him, but he emphasises that breaking and entering is a serious offence – they have to tell the police.
![]() |
| "It's not worth it for a tenner, is it?" |
“Please don’t do that, Col – it’s not worth it for a tenner, is it? Please?”
![]() |
| "This is between you and your conscience" |
He agrees, but angrily reminds her that it is between her and her conscience.
![]() |
| Colin is late for work |
Today Eileen is behind the counter in the shop and reprimands Colin when he comes in late;
![]() |
| "Good afternoon!" |
“Good afternoon!” she snaps,
![]() |
| "We've had a hard morning" |
so he explains that they have had a hard morning, if truth be told. She is not sympathetic, but assumes that the alarm clock did not go off.
“No, someone broke into the flat last night –they didn’t steal much, but it’s been a shock.”
![]() |
| She is slightly more sympathetic |
Then her attitude softens a little, as she wonders if the police know who did it, but Colin says there is no news yet.
“Perhaps it was that group of homeless people,” she suggests, “I’m sorry to say this, but some of the blame lies with Britt.”
![]() |
| "Britt's only trying to help" |
Colin points out that she is only trying to help, but Eileen is of the opinion, “It’s such a shame, you can’t help kids like that –
![]() |
| "I hope she's learned her lesson" |
“I hope that Britt has learned her lesson.”
![]() |
| Colin managed not to retaliate |
Colin has difficulty resisting the temptation to answer back, but simply grabs his jacket and goes into the storeroom.
![]() |
| "Flat white to go, please" |
Hywel comes into the deli and orders a flat white to go; he notices Lleucu sitting by the window
![]() |
| "Ceffyl Du not good enough for you today" |
and comments, “Ceffyl Du isn’t good enough for you today, then?” She answers that applies to him as well, and he gives as the reason that Rhys only stocks instant, but he prefers the proper stuff.
He asks if everything is all right with her; “Apart from the usual mess at home, everything’s great,” she sighs, so he wonders what has happened.
![]() |
| "Dad's moved out"| |
“Dad’s moved out,” she says, “I won’t bore you, it’s a long story.”
![]() |
| Hywel collects his coffee |
He is given his coffee and on the way out assures Lleucu that if she wants to talk, she knows where he is – and they also need to continue their chat about the Ceffyl Du’s image.
![]() |
| "You can have a free drink" |
He promises her a free drink for her trouble.
![]() |
| "When Eileen chucks me out" |
“I’ll come, once Eileen chucks me out for not spending enough,” Lleucu replies.
![]() |
| "Your porridge is ready" |
At number 7, things have not improved; when told that the porridge is ready,
![]() |
| "I don't want it!" |
Anita makes it quite clear that she does not want it.
![]() |
| "It's a pity to waste it" |
“Of course you do,” says the carer, apparently named Bethany, “And there’s a nice cup of tea for you here, too. It’s a pity to waste it – it looks so nice with the currants and everything –
![]() |
| "Come on, now, or it will get cold" |
“come on now, or it will get cold.”
Anita is by this time becoming more agitated, so Bethany gives up with the porridge and brings her the mug of tea instead.
![]() |
| "How many more times?" |
“How many times do I have to say it? I don’t want it!” Anita snarls.
![]() |
| She knocks the hot liquid flying . . . |
She knocks the cup of hot tea from Bethany’s hand,
![]() |
| . . . all over Bethany |
scalding her hand and wrist.
![]() |
| Colin is keeping an eye on these two |
Colin finds the two young, allegedly homeless, people looking at the shelves in the shop
![]() |
| Eileen recognises them |
and that moment Eileen walks in, recognises them as the same as she saw in the alley earlier.
![]() |
| "Do you have any money?" |
She demands, “Do you have any money? What do you want?”
![]() |
| They look blankly at her |
As they look blankly at her, she assumes that they do not understand Welsh, so she asks the same questions again in English,
![]() |
| "We don't have anything for free" |
adding that they do not have anything for free there.
![]() |
| "What's that in your pocket?" |
Then she notices the bottle of milkshake in the pocket of one of them
![]() |
| She snatches the milkshake |
and grabs it.
“Look, Col, they’ve stolen that!” she shouts and they immediately make a bolt for the door,
![]() |
| Colin blocks their escape route |
but Colin is too quick for them, blocking their exit.
![]() |
| "I have to phone the police" |
Eileen takes great delight in informing them, “I have to phone the police!”
![]() |
| "I'm so sorry about that!" |
Ieuan has been summoned back to number 7 and has put Anita to bed for a rest. He apologises profusely to Bethany and she assures him that it will be all right;
![]() |
| "It sometimes takes a while" |
he should not worry, maintaining that it takes a while sometimes to build up a relationship.
He argues that it does not help that the agency always send a different person; “I’m not having a go at you, you understand.”
![]() |
| "It's a big thing for Anita" |
Bethany appreciates that it is a big thing for Anita to get used to different people; “Stacie mentioned that Anita was upset the other day, too –
![]() |
| "We don't want to give up . . . but . . ." |
“we definitely don’t want to give up on Anita, but if she continues to threaten and hurt carers, it’s only fair to her that she receives appropriate care –
![]() |
| "A place where she – and everyone else – can be safe" |
“a place where she – and everyone else – can be safe.”
![]() |
| "You mean a care home" |
Ieuan can see that she is referring to a care home and Bethany realises that is not something he wants to think about right now;
![]() |
| "Perhaps she would be happier" |
“But in the long run, perhaps she would be happier.”
![]() |
| "I hope that's not the same cup of coffee" |
Sure enough, Eileen says that she hopes that is not the same cup of coffee that Lleucu bought this morning;
![]() |
| "This is the third, actually" |
she is assured, “This is the third, actually – but I’m going after this one, don’t worry.”
![]() |
| "You were a hero in the shop!" |
Colin comes in and is presented with a specially-made coffee; “You were a hero in the shop! It’s not every day that someone catches two thieves!”
![]() |
| "It's sad when they take advantage of people" |
Colin just regards it as sad that they take advantage of people,
![]() |
| "That's the world we live in these days" |
but she points out that is the world they live in these days.
![]() |
| "What are you talking about?" |
Lleucu has overheard and enquires what they are talking about;
![]() |
| "Two of that gang stole a bottle milkshake" |
“Two of that homeless gang came in and stole a bottle of milkshake – what a cheek!” says Eileen.
![]() |
| "They were probably thirsty" |
Lleucu imagines that they were thirsty, so Colin maintains that they should have asked for a glass of water and not stolen something.
![]() |
| "Yes, exactly, Colin" |
Eileen agrees wholeheartedly with him.
![]() |
| "Was it a chocolate milkshake?" |
When Eileen is out of earshot, Lleucu asks Colin, “Was it a chocolate milkshake? Was the girl wearing a yellow hat?” When he replies in the affirmative,
![]() |
| "I gave her that this morning" |
she continues, “I gave her that milkshake this morning.”
![]() |
| "Oh" |
Colin realises that this puts a completely different complexion on things.
![]() |
| Ieuan is working from home |
Ieuan is studying the laptop when he hears Anita coming downstairs and ask her if she managed to get any sleep.
![]() |
| "I feel like a million dollars!" |
She says that she feels like ‘a million dollars.’
![]() |
| "Come and sit down here" |
He moves along the sofa to make room for her;
![]() |
| "Are we having a cwtch and a film? |
“Are we having a cwtch?” she enquires, “And a film?” He says that he has some work to do first,
![]() |
| "Life's too short for that" |
but she simply closes the laptop, maintaining that life is too short.
![]() |
| "We'll make the most of the quiet house" |
He agrees that she is probably right; “Seeing that Indeg is out and Kelly won’t be back until tomorrow, we’d better make the most of this quiet house. What do you want to watch?”
![]() |
| "The Wizard of Oz!" |
Anita excitedly replies, “The Wizard of Oz,” then adds, “Do you know what I’d like?
![]() |
| "A little glass of wine" |
“A little glass of wine – just a small one won’t do any harm.”
![]() |
| "I'll go and get some wine" |
He will go and get some, first turning on the television for her.
![]() |
| Colin explains to the police |
In the deli, Colin is on the phone to the police’ “Yes, that’s it – Siop y Pentre, Cwmderi. As I said, the whole thing is a misunderstanding – thanks very much.”
![]() |
| Ieuan selects a bottle |
Ieuan has come in and selected a bottle of wine, but Colin is feeling terrible, although Lleucu reassures him that he did the right thing.
![]() |
| Eileen tells him about the break-in |
As Ieuan goes to pay for his purchase, Eileen tells him about the stealing. “That homeless group were in the shop earlier and I’m sure they broke into Colin’s and Britt’s flat.
![]() |
| "If Britt had not attracted them . . ." |
“If Britt had not attracted them in the first place, it wouldn’t have happened. They probably take drugs and sell them to our youngsters –
![]() |
| "Cwmderi is going to the dogs!" |
“I’m telling you, Cwmderi is going to the dogs!”
This is the last straw for Colin,
![]() |
| "Shut your big mouth for once, will you?" |
who uncharacteristically shouts at her, “Shut your big mouth for once, will you? At least, Britt has a heart, which is more than I can say about you! Lleucu gave the milkshake to that young girl –
![]() |
| "She was completely innocent!" |
“she was completely innocent.”
He walks out of the deli, leaving Eileen stunned;
![]() |
| Ieuan and Lleucu look aft each other |
Lleucu and Ieuan look at each other,
![]() |
| Ieuan pays for his wine and leaves |
as he simply pays contactlessly and leaves as well.
![]() |
| Eileen is now feeling rather stupid |
Eileen is now looking rather sheepish.
![]() |
| Lleucu withdraws to Ceffyl Du |
Lleucu approaches Ceffyl Du, where some music is playing and Hywel is singing along to it;
♫“That’s what you’re like – and that’s how you should be,
Nobody else like you exists.”♫
![]() |
| She gives Hywel a shock |
She taps him on the shoulder and gives him a fright, so he turns down the music on his phone
![]() |
| "Had enough of Tamed, have you?" |
assuming that she has had enough of Tamed.
“I’ve had enough of Eileen!” she snaps,
![]() |
| "Eileen is something else!" |
“She’s something else, isn’t she?”
![]() |
| "Unless you've stopped being too stubborn to give me a proper drink" |
He asks what she wants to drink and she replies, “I’ll have a ginger beer – unless you’ve stopped being too stubborn to give me a real drink.”
![]() |
| "I thought you didn't like 'smelly beer'!" |
He had been under the impression that she did not like ‘smelly beer’.
![]() |
| "I want you to be honest, Lleucu" |
He meant what he said, that he wants her to be honest with him about how they can attract a younger crowd there; “Don’t hold back.”
“Well, to start with, you could sell something apart from posh beer and pork scratchings.
![]() |
| "Real ale nerds are a real turn-off!" |
Real Ale nerds are a massive turn-off. You could sell things like cocktails, Prosecco, nice nuts, more of a choice.”
![]() |
| "Anything else on your list?" |
Hywel wonders if there is anything more on her list.
![]() |
| "You need to sort the playlist out" |
“Sorry, but you need to sort the playlist out,” she goes on
![]() |
| "You could organise that" |
and he suggests that perhaps she could organise a playlist for them. “Perhaps,” she replies,
![]() |
| "It will cost you more than a bottle of pop!" |
“But it will cost you more than a bottle of pop!”
![]() |
| Anita has fallen asleep . . . |
Anita has fallen asleep while watching the film
![]() |
| . . . so Ieuan awakens hr |
and Ieuan awakens her when it ends;
![]() |
| "There's no place like home" |
she tells him, “There’s no place like home,”
![]() |
| "Right, time for bed now" |
and he says that now it is time for bed.
![]() |
| "You're my home" |
She looks closely at him and adds, “You’re my home.”
![]() |
| "I'm so sorry – about everything" |
Back at the MFC flat, Colin is looking anxious as Britt comes in; “Britt, he says, “I’m so sorry – about everything.
![]() |
| "Those youngsters need help" |
“You were right – those youngsters need help, not getting arrested and thrown in jail. I know what I said – but I was wrong.
![]() |
| "I want to help you make things right" |
“I want to help you to make things right, however I can.”
![]() |
| "Why are you changing your mind?" |
She cannot understand why he is changing his mind,
![]() |
| "Perhaps I've had a conversion" |
so he explains, “I don’t know – perhaps I’ve had a conversion,”
![]() |
| They hug each other |
and they hug each other.
![]() |
| "There's something else, Col" |
Then she remembers something which came through the post this morning;
![]() |
| A £10 net and the word 'Sorry' |
a £10 note with slip of paper attached, bearing the words ‘Sorry – Ben’.
![]() |
| "Thanks" |
Britt looks up with gratitude.
![]() |
| It really s dripping this time . . . |
A tap appears to be really dripping at number 7;
![]() |
| . . . and Anita firmly turns it off |
Anita has heard it and come downstairs to turn it off, then it stops abruptly.
![]() |
| She walks into the other room . . . |
She turns and walks unsteadily back into the living room,
![]() |
| . . . puts on her coat . . . |
picks up her coat and puts it on, opens the front door
![]() |
| . . . and walks out into the night |
and goes outside, in the darkness.
