Colin is back for hospital . . .

Colin is home from the hospital, with a large plaster on his forehead;  Britt tells him to sit down and she will make a cup of tea.   “Don’t go to any trouble, because I’m fine,” he says,

. . . and Britt is fussing over him

but she continues to enquire if he wants something to eat.   He will have some lunch later, then she suggests that he should have a nap.

“I’m all right,” he insists, but she reminds him that the doctor said he needed to rest.   “And that’s what I shall do, don’t worry –

"Beans on toast and a cowboy film"

“I don’t want a fuss – beans on toast and a cowboy film, and I’ll be fine.

"It was supposed to be a peaceful protest"

At Bryntirion, Kelly is feeling terrible;  “Honestly, it was supposed to be a peaceful protest, right?”

"That's how every protest starts"

DS Fielding replies that is how every protest starts, but so that it continues like that, she should have contacted the police first.

Kelly maintains that it was a last-minute thing, but the DS points out, “This was your second protest – and you had time to make the placards.”

"You should see me when I'm in full protest flow!"

“You should see me when I’m in full protest flow!” Kelly tells her, “Slogans, signs – really artistic, like!”   When she sees Delyth’s forbidding expression, she adds, “But I am sorry – the last thing I wanted was for someone to get hurt – especially Colin – how is he?”

"What happens now?"

The DS advises that he came out of hospital this morning and Kelly wonders what happens now.

"I think a warning  should suffice"

“Well, I think a warning should suffice,” she is told and Kelly says that she has really learned her lesson.   “Good, because I don’t want you disturbing the peace again – thanks for the tea and biscuits.”

"Don't tell Dai I raided his secret stash"

“Just don’t tell Dai that I raided his secret stash,” Kelly warns, “But needs must when the police come knocking at your door.”   Delyth hopes that she will not have to do it again,

"Thank God that's over"

but when she has left, Kelly sighs, “Well, thank God that’s over and that Colin’s all right.”

"I was thinking the hunt was the dangerous thing"

“And I was thinking that the hunt is the dangerous thing,” remarks Jason, but she insists that Eileen is worse.   He assumes that Kelly will be having a quiet day today,

"On the sofa with a blanket and hot chocolate . . ."

and she alleges, “I’ll be on the sofa with a blanket and hot chocolate –

". . . with my gob zipped up!"

“with my gob zipped up!”

“At least, we wont have the police around then, will we?” he says,

"See you later . . ."

“I have to go back to work – see you later –

". . . try not to make anyone collapse!"

“and try not to cause anyone to collapse today!”

"You look pale, Mark"

As they clear tables in the Deri, Cassie reckons that Mark looks a bit pale and he says that he did not sleep well last night;  he is really looking forward to the panto.

Mark is nervous about the panto

“I’m a bit nervous – I know we haven’t started rehearsing yet, but now I’m Siôn Blewyn Coch, I don’t want to let Cheryl down – seeing as she’s Siân Slei Bach.”

"Why don't you go home for a nap?"

Cassie recommends that he should go home for a nap and to go over his lines, as it is quiet in the Deri.

He answers that he will not get much peace there as Gabriel is sick and screaming the place down.

“Well, go upstairs and have a nap on the sofa,” is her next suggestion, Your mother will be pleased to see you – when she gets back from the optician’s.”

"I've worn glasses for years"

Mark asks if Kath was still scared to go this morning;  “I don’t know what the big deal is – I’ve worn glasses for years.”   Cassie also needs them for reading.   “Anyone would think she’s having a heart transplant!” he scoffs and heads upstairs.

In the Deri flat . . .

He rearranges the cushions,

. . . he tries to get comfortable . . .

settles down, but cannot get comfortable;  as he again moves the cushions,

. . . then makes a discovery

he notices something protruding from under the sofa,

"Who does that belong to?"

which he discovers to be a man’s sock.   He finds this rather puzzling.

"Come in – the door's open"

Eileen is making scones when there is a knock at the door of Penrhewl;

"Something smells nice"

the DS has come to speak to her as well and remarks that something smells nice there.   “I won’t keep you for long,” she continues and Eileen is glad that she called.

"What are you going to do about Kelly?"

“I was going to ask you what you’re going to do about Kelly,” she says.

"I've just been to see her"

The DS replies that she has already been to see Kelly, and now wants a chat with Eileen.

"She can't deny what happened"

“She can’t deny what happened!” snarls Eileen, “Because there were plenty of witnesses.”

"I've given Kelly a warning"

“As I said, I’ve talked to Kelly and given her a warning,” which infuriates Eileen,

"I haven't done anything wrong"

who does not know why she needs to be involved at all, maintaining that she has not done anything wrong.

"I don't have time for this!"

She points out that she does not have time for this, but the DS is not going to be put off so easily;  “We can either do it here or at the station – it’s up to you.”   Eileen is extremely disgruntled.

"It's nice to see you smiling"

Cassie is serving a customer at the Deri when Mark comes back downstairs;  she says that it is nice to see him smiling and hopes that he had a good nap.

"What was this doing under the sofa?"

“Yes, great, thanks, Cassie,” he tells her, holding up the sock, “What was this doing under the sofa?   I take it that Mam doesn’t bring men home, so do you have a fancy man?”

"Don't you ever nose around my sofa again!"

Cassie warns him, “Don’t you ever nose around my sofa again!

"You're lucky that's the only thing you found!"

“You’re lucky that’s the only thing you found!”

She grabs the sock

as she snatches the offending item.

"Kelly spoiled everything!"

“But I wouldn’t have disturbed the peace if Kelly hadn’t stopped in front of my car!” exclaims Eileen, “She spoiled everything!”   Delyth is not there to take sides, but is instructed that she should do so because Kelly was to blame.

"Don't let this dispute affect the village"

“I’m warning both of you not to let this dispute affect the village – all right?” Delyth summarises, just as Sioned arrives, but the DS now points out that they have finished,

"Yes, I suppose so"

something which is grudgingly conceded by Eileen.

"Colin was discharged from hospital this morning"

In case you’re interested, Colin Evans was discharged from hospital this morning,” Delyth adds which Sioned greets as good news.

“Are you going to see Colin?” Sioned asks her mother,

"I've got too much to do today"

but Eileen maintains that she has too much to do today.

"You're not still working on the hunt?"

“Please don’t tell me you’re still working on the hunt?” Sioned demands.

"You think I'd forget about my plans"

“Did you think that after yesterday I’d forget about my plans?” Eileen growls;

"I thought you'd take a step back"

Sioned assumed that she would take a step back, after Colin collapsed.

"He's home from hospital"

“You heard what Delyth said – he’s home from hospital.”

Sioned thought that Colin was one of her closest friends;

"If Kelly hadn't acted like a child . . ."

“Yes, and if Kelly had not acted like a child . . .” Eileen begins.

"It's ripping the community apart!

“I know you want to expand – but it is hurting people and causing problems,” Sioned stresses, “It’s ripping the community apart and you’re losing friends – is it really worth it?”

"Only an apple juice"

When Howard arrives in the Deri, he is asked if he wants a pint;  “Apple juice – I’ve still got a lot to do,” he tells Cassie,

"Brought the hip flask with you?"

who enquires whether he has brought his hip flask with him.

He needs help deciphering the post

“Thanks for offering to help – I’m quite good at recognising logos,” he says, as he is holding some items of post.   She invites him to sit down

"I'll join you when Mark comes in"

and she will join him when Mark comes in.   Then she takes out the sock from under the bar which he immediately recognises.

"This was under the sofa"

She informs him that it was under the sofa, and he had been wondering where it had gone;  “I was in a hurry to feed the cattle and I couldn’t find it,” he says.   Cassie is anxious that they do not want everyone to find out that he had a ‘sleepover’.

"Off you go, Cassie"

Mark comes in, so Cassie goes for her break;

He grins at Howard . . .

he looks across with a knowing smile

. . . who wonder what that is for

as she and Howard sit together.

Sioned comes looking for Jason

Jason is working outside the back of APD when Sioned comes looking for him with an order from DJ;

"I take it you had a similar night to me . . ."

“That shouldn’t be a problem – they’ll be here at the end of the week,” he tells her, “I take it you had a similar night to the one I had!

". . . Kelly had several rants about your mother"

“Kelly had several rants about your mother last night.”

Sioned confirms that her mother was exactly the same, and remarks, “Kelly enjoys a protest, doesn’t she?”

"We have repaint and placards in the garage"

Jason jokes that they have red paint and placards in the garage, just in case.

"Give me a heads-up next time"

“Do me a favour – give me a heads up next time she goes up against Mam,” Sioned asks.   Jason stresses that he loves Kelly and her morals – and that she’s willing to fight for her principles, while Sioned in turn admires her mother for being so ambitious.

"Life would be easier if they weren't"

“But life would be easier if they weren’t,” Jason sighs.

Sioned says that at least Kelly listens to him;  “Mam just makes decisions and expects me to support her.”

"Seriously, Col, I'm so sorry"

Kelly has gone to visit Colin and is pleased to see that he has more colour in his cheeks today;  “But it’s no thanks to me, is it?   Seriously, I’m so sorry, Col.”

"It's all right, Kelly"

He tries to reassure her that it is all right, but she goes on, “It’s not all right, because I took things too far.”

He appreciates that she was trying to express her opinion, but she maintains that his health is much more important, so she has made him a little basket of goodies.

"After listening to two mouthy cows outside!"

“Everything in here should make you feel more relaxed and calm, you know – after listening to two mouthy cows outside!”

"Camomile tea, bubble bath"

He finds camomile tea, bubble bath

"Lavender drops?"

and is rather puzzled by lavender drops;  she assures him that a couple of drops on his pillow is a game changer.   He is pleased to see to see some chocolate there, which she knows technically does not relax you;

"Chocolate calms me down"

“But it calms me down!”   Colin is very grateful to her and she is really glad that he is all right, because she was really worried.

"If there's anything I can do . . ."

“If there’s anything I can do, or anything I can get for you . . .” she continues and when he invites her to have a cup of tea with him, she insists that she will make it,

"How about the camomile?"

so he selects the camomile tea.

Howard has money problems with Deri Fawr

As they examine one of the invoices, Howard asks, “But if John hasn’t paid it, I’ll have to pay!”   Cassie manages to ascertain that Howard pays the household bills, but he did not know anything about the council tax.

"Well, you'll have to contact John"

Cassie advises that he will have to contact John, and then turns her attention to another letter;  “I hope you appreciate that I’m losing my break,” she comments

"I'll buy you  drink, Cassie"

and he says that he will buy her drink.

"A lasagne for tonight, please"

comes in and wants to order a lasagne from Mark, behind the bar;  “For tonight – I want to take it home with me – I promise to bring the dishes back.”

"How's Colin doing?"

Mark asks how Colin is doing, and she explains that it was high blood pressure,

"I'm trying to make life easier for him"

so she is trying to make life easier for him, “And he loves lasagne!”   Mark volunteers to bring it over around seven when he has finished his shift.

"Have you heard the latest?"

Then he imparts the latest bit of gossip;

"Do you think those two are . . . you know?"

“Do you think those two are . . . you know?”

Britt simply laughs

Britt laughs at the mere suggestion.

"I've eaten more chocolate than you"

At number 21 they are enjoying tea and chocolate;  “This was meant to be an apology – but I’ve eaten more than you,” says Kelly.

He wonders how she knew that this was his favourite;

"You're always eating it when I come into the shop"

“Because you’re always eating it when I come into the shop,” she replies, but he points out that it is not every time.

That is a voice Colin does not want to hear

Then there is a knock at the door and Kelly goes to answer it;  it is Eileen and neither of them is pleased to see the other.

“What are you doing here?” Eileen angrily demands, and Kelly imagines that it is the same as Eileen’s reason.

"I'm surprised you let her in!"

Then she starts on Colin;  “I’m surprised you let her in after what she did yesterday!”

Colin points out that Kelly has apologised;  “That’s the least she could do –

"She acted disgracefully!"

“she acted disgracefully – and spoilt everything for me!”

"Pity you didn't leave yesterday!"

Kelly thinks that it it is probably best if she leaves.   “Yes, pity you didn’t do that yesterday!” Eileen snarls.

“Look, Col, I’ve brought you these . . .” but she does not get any further

"Kelly's not going – she hasn't finished her tea"

as Colin is adamant that Kelly will not leave;  she has not finished her tea yet.

“Sorry, Eileen, but I can’t accept that,” he adds,

"You're just my boss – you're not a friend"

“Because I’ve realised that you’re my boss – not a friend.   You haven’t even asked if I’m all right,”

"I was just about to ask you that"

so she insists that she was just about to ask that.

"A friend would have phoned or texted"

“A friend would have phoned or texted or something,” he goes on.

She maintains that she was upset last night as well;

"I was sorting out her mess!"

“Sorting out her mess!” she growls, but Colin informs her that he wants her to leave.

"I'm supposed to avoid all this stress, all right?"

“Please, Eileen, I’m supposed to avoid all this stress, all right?” he says.

"Well, I shall want a doctor's note!

Of course, she has to have the last word;  “But if I am just your boss, I want a doctor’s note if you’re off work for more than three days!”

Off she goes, much to Colin's relief

With that, she marches out of the house.

"Are you all right, Col?"

Kelly sits down by Colin and asks if he is all right;  when he agrees that he is,

They finish off the chocolate

they continue sharing the chocolate.

"Gin and tonic"

Eileen goes straight to the Deri, where she asks for a gin and tonic;  barman Mark reminds her that she has not said ‘please’, which does nothing to improve  her mood.   She says that she has had a terrible day and wants him to leave it.

"Do you want to hear something funny?"

“Do you want to hear something funny that will make you laugh?” he enquires, “I found a sock earlier, under Mam’s and Cassie’s sofa – and guess who owns it?”

Eileen is not interested

Eileen looks completely disinterested, but he goes on, “Howard!   Him and Cassie are together.”

"Yeah, Colin was OK with me"

Kelly reports back to Jason, “Yeah, he was OK with me – but fuming with Eileen!”

"But I kept my cool"

Jason is concerned that she saw Eileen, and is told, “But I kept my cool.”

"Is it stir-fry?"

She wants to know what Jason is cooking for dinner;  “Is it stir-fry?”   He informs her that Mam and Dai have taken Ifan to the cinema,

"So it's just the two of us"

so she realises, “It’s just the two of us.”

"Are we going to put a stop to this protesting?"

“So this means we can put a stop to this protesting?” wonders Jason and is disappointed when she points out that she was sticking up for what is right –

"I'm giving a voice to the unheard"

giving a voice to the unheard.

"Why does to have to be your voice?"

He wants to know why it has to be her voice.

"Because that's who I am"

“Because, Jase, that’s who I am – OK?”   He was under the impression that she had agreed to accept it this time.

"The plans are probably not totally legit"

“I was going to, until I realised Eileen’s plans probably aren’t totally legit.”

"Where did you get that impression?"

Jason asks where she got that impression;

"Jinx says it's just a  cover-up"

“Jinx – this drag hunt is just a cover-up, apparently – and it’s on private land, so God only knows what will happen.”

Jason realises that she has been talking to Jinx again and she says that she had asked him to take over the campaign, “But he persuaded me to stay.”

"He wants to spend more time with you"

“Of course he did – he wants to spend more time with you,” Jason sneers.

"He made me realise I have to do this . . ."

“No – he made me realise that I have to do this –

". . . fight for my beliefs!"

fight for my beliefs!”

"Pity you won't fight for us, Kelly"

Jason sighs, “It’s a pity you won’t fight for us, Kelly,”

He chops the stir-fry vegetables

as he glumly chops the carrots.
